a poem – Eurydice in Pursuit

For Blondie in Blue

Part I

Forgive the detours my heart took
Prior debts led to my blind descent
The Sirens’ calls crashed my vessel
Shrieks deafened me to the tears you’ve wept

Sobering through all-out war
A hollowing agent on fleeting bail
I took up arms in hopes for Death
To free myself from the Quest for Grail

The bottomless grave of Reasonless struggle
Where my Grand Designs met a silent end
The place most feared by my obsolescence
Became my only trusted friend

Down there I left the perfect future
The hopes I had that Love was True
Consumed by vengeance, a gift from Lethe
To ease the pain of loving You

Part II

The One against the Many fought
With fists against the scourge of Blood
Intent on leaving his final mark
He said goodbyes to all but the One

Golden-haired and wrapped in Blue
She stayed the course and kept her word
Despite His hopes that she would forget him
Eurydice maintained pursuit

Though Hades in Red kept Him in chains
Flaying His skin with sadistic glee
Orpheus had His meager goal:
Cackle through flames at the Gods’ stupidity

He stood, eyes darkened, on Hell’s final bridge
Torches in hand, Hades’ hounds all bleating,
Orpheus sneered, forcing laughter through song
And set alight that which prevented His drowning

No fear of the burn, the beasts all gnawed
Eating away at the last of His husk
The smoke finally cleared, leaving Hades in awe
At two crosses entwined under the Sun in its dusk

The Old Gods gathered, fearful of rising waters
Plotting schemes out of date to save their raw hides
From a Hell they had created in Lust for Power
But Nemesis long ago had chosen her side

Part III

Beyond the crimson sunset, in the cold Platonic realms
Where Dante and Beloved sat at a table of Twelve
Eurydice laid His remains before them all
Crying for aid from the Aeons themselves

A choir arose from a well-hidden stage
And in tears Sophia’s hands upon Orpheus were laid
The surge of Pleroma ignited His cold veins
Orpheus opened his eyes to glimpse Euridyce again.
