NORFOLK CITY COUNCIL
GOES FULL 757 FABULOUS
The 757 doesn’t do half-measures, baby. We do glitter bombs on Granby Street, military-grade empathy at Waterside, and zero tolerance for fascist tantrums anywhere near the Elizabeth River.
NORFOLK CITY COUNCIL GOES FULL 757 FABULOUS:
Drag Queen Story Year, 365-Day Trans Visibility, and the Old Armed Forces Brewing Spot Is Now Drag Brunch HQ
NORFOLK, VA — Listen up, 757. In a move so fierce it made the pearl-clutchers on Nextdoor spill their sweet tea and drop their Old Bay-seasoned crab legs, the Norfolk City Council just went full fabulous and slapped the entire city with the most gloriously queer, pro-human, anti-hate agenda this side of the Elizabeth River.
We’re talking Drag Queen Story Year in every damn school. We’re talking Trans Day of Visibility every single sunrise over the Battleship Wisconsin. And we’re talking the old Armed Forces Brewing spot in Ghent getting reborn as the permanent home of “Drag the Hate Away” Brunch HQ, where the only thing getting “drafted” now is a fresh mimosa and a side of reality.
Drag Queen Story Year — Not One Hour. Not One Day. A Whole Damn Year.
That’s right, darlings. From the classrooms of Ocean View to the hallways of Blair Middle, from Chesapeake to the Navy Yard, every public and private school in the 757 will now host a rotating roster of local drag performers every single school day. No more timid little Story Hour. We’re serving full Story Year, baby — because one measly hour a week was never going to silence the bigots screaming about “grooming” while they clutch their Bibles and their fragile masculinity on Granby Street.
“We heard the usual fascists howling about indoctrination, so we said fine. You win. Drag queens in every classroom, every single day, all year long. We’re adding mandatory lessons on consent, basic human kindness, and how to properly contour so your resting bigot face doesn’t look quite so constipated while you’re stuck in I-64 traffic.”
— Councilmember “Big Daddy” Rodriguez (D – Fabulous)
Every Single Day Is Now Trans Day of Visibility — Deal With It
Last month’s one-day event clearly wasn’t enough for the snowflakes, so the Council said “screw it” and made it permanent. Pride flags are flying 365 days a year from Waterside District to the Chrysler Museum to the front gates of Naval Station Norfolk. Trans kids get celebrated instead of erased. Trans adults get to live without some sad keyboard warrior melting down in the comments. If you’re still throwing a tantrum about it, that’s a you problem. The rest of us are too busy thriving, serving looks, and walking Granby Street like we own the night — because we basically do now.
Armed Forces Brewing Tucks Tail and Runs — Their Old Ghent Spot Becomes “Drag the Hate Away” Brunch HQ
After their disastrous attempt to plant roots in Ghent — Norfolk’s official gayborhood where the only thing straighter than their beer was their outdated opinions — the brewery packed up their fragile feelings, their Navy-SEAL cosplay spokesdude, and their casual bigotry and relocated somewhere that doesn’t mind that kind of energy. The 757 woke mob (a term we have now fully reclaimed with sequins and spite) responded the only way we know how: we took over the old taproom and turned it into a permanent, free-to-the-public drag brunch headquarters right in the heart of the action.
Opening weekend is already legendary. Military families, sailors on liberty, and confused tourists from Waterside will be served free mimosas alongside a healthy dose of “your kid is already queer, they just haven’t told you yet.” First round of glitter bombs is on the house. Second round is mandatory pronouns and a quick tutorial on why hate is boring. By the third round you’ll be too busy death-dropping on the dance floor to remember why you were ever mad in the first place.
Program Highlights — Pure, Unfiltered 757 Energy
- Tina Burner’s Toddler Time – Every Tuesday at Blair Middle School. Expect heavy rotation of “I’m a Pretty Little Princess Who Also Happens to Be a Boy” and “The Little Engine That Could (Because She Uses She/Her Pronouns Now).”
- Methamphetamine-Free Craft Hour – Sponsored by the LGBT Life Center and whoever keeps leaving those suspicious duffel bags of poppers at City Hall. Kids will learn to bedazzle their own pronoun pins using only legal amounts of glue and maximum creativity.
- Navy Yard Drag Brunch – Special Saturday sessions for military families. Yes, even the ones who wrote angry letters last year. You will be served bottomless mimosas and cold, hard reality with a side of fierce.
- Granby Street Glow-Up Karaoke – Pop-up queens belting “I Will Survive” from the sidewalks while traffic crawls by. Nothing shuts down a bigot faster than a six-foot queen in eight-inch heels owning the block.
- Waterside District Takeover – Weekend brunch specials where the only thing getting “canceled” is hate. Come for the drag, stay for the glitter bombs raining down on anyone still clutching their pearls.
Mayor “Miss Thang” McGlothlin delivered the final, delicious mic drop while twirling in front of City Hall:
“We could have gone with Book Burning and Bigotry Hour like the sad little fascists wanted. Instead we chose love. We chose kindness. We chose sequins. Mostly sequins. Deal with it, 757. The future is here, it’s fabulous, and it’s wearing better makeup than you ever will.”
Drag Queen Story Year, 365 days of Trans Visibility, and the brand new Drag the Hate Away Brunch HQ all begin immediately. The only thing we’re grooming these kids for is a future where they can walk Granby Street, dance at Waterside, or serve looks at school without some bitter adult having a full meltdown because a child dared to exist as their authentic self.
The 757 just got a whole lot fiercer. The haters can stay mad, stay invisible, or better yet — join the brunch and finally loosen up. We’ve got plenty of glitter and zero patience for yesterday’s nonsense.
