Poem – I don’t envy the hawk

Strings tugged so the puppet smiles
Screaming from your quiet wiles

Rage encased in false perception
Condensed and sent in my direction

The difference here is one of wit
Where you see magic, I see shit

Where you feel union, I feel smothered
By ancient mythos long uncovered

Reading my feelings and feeling my thoughts
Might be the only belief you've got

To hold on to while the math resolves
Leaving one while the zero dissolves

A simple goal was always set
You thought my mind was your project

But arrogance in all its forms
Long manifested for me to scorn

Before you ever thought I cared
I measured carefully your despair

The outcome long ago was measured
As consequence for a moment's pleasure

A lesson internal that can't be taught
Until the damsel is hoist or caught

It's not her choice, nor her fault
That their abuse had left its mark

I don't envy the hawk for finding its feast
Nor pity the prey for trusting instincts

Fatal beauty has its cost,
So absurd that its description is lost

I don't know if you ever were there,
But it certainly was nice to smell your hair.
